What does the quoted price actually cover?

Start with the purpose and proposed duration of treatment. A fee for diagnostic assessment is not equivalent to a longer residential programme. A private bedroom in a shared residence is also different from an entire residence dedicated to one client. Ask each provider to specify the treatment address, occupancy model, clinical lead and services included. Use the same proposed dates and duration when comparing quotes; do not assume that two programmes described as luxury offer the same medical support or clinical intensity.

Published examples: use them as a starting point, not a quote

COGNIFUL publishes CHF 55,000 per week for its maximum-two-client setting and CHF 35,000 per week for its maximum-four-client setting in Mallorca. Both descriptions include a private bedroom and primarily individual psychotherapy. These figures reproduce the provider’s published programme rates checked on 21 September 2026. They are not a market average, a recommendation about duration or a guarantee of the amount a particular admission will cost. THE BALANCE remains a separate one-client model: request a location-specific written proposal rather than applying COGNIFUL’s rates to it.

Separate included care from possible additional charges

Request a line-by-line schedule for assessment, psychotherapy, psychiatric appointments, medical input, accommodation and meals. Ask separately about medication, laboratory work, interpretation, independent specialists, hospital care and any security or travel arrangements. COGNIFUL’s admissions page says some external medical care, medication, special travel or security arrangements and extensions may cost extra; the individual plan confirms specialist and medical input. Do not treat an inclusive headline as confirmation that every intervention is covered.

Build a total budget in one currency

Keep each provider’s original currency in your comparison and record the date of any exchange-rate conversion. Add the programme fee, any separately priced clinical services, travel, transfers, visas where required, accompanying accommodation and agreed follow-up. Ask your bank or payment provider about conversion and transfer charges. A four-week multiplication is a budgeting exercise, not a treatment recommendation. Confirm whether weekly rates change for extensions, whether taxes are included and which cancellation terms apply.

Confirm the payment and change terms before committing

Ask when the deposit and balance become payable, which parts are refundable and what happens if the clinical recommendation changes. Request written terms for delayed arrival, an extension, early discharge or transfer to a different level of care. The person paying should receive an itemised proposal without assuming unrestricted access to the patient’s clinical information. Keep financial consent, clinical consent and authorised information-sharing clear and separate.

Insurance and aftercare need their own confirmation

Do not subtract hoped-for reimbursement from the budget before your insurer confirms the relevant terms. COGNIFUL describes its programmes as generally self-pay and says it does not work directly with insurers; documentation for a reimbursement request is not a guarantee of payment. Ask every provider what continuing-care planning includes and which follow-up appointments are separately charged. Compare the complete pathway back to local care, not just the residential stay.

This is a planning checklist, not a diagnosis or a personalised treatment recommendation. Ask qualified clinicians to assess your needs before making treatment or travel decisions.
